Move over Twilight
a new vampire’s in town!
Jonathan Rhys Meyers plans to really sink his teeth
into his new role as… Dracula! Meyers, played Henry VIII on
"The Tudors," and was mean, spoiled, hot and totally amazing in it!
You loved to hate him!
Since then he’s
been tapped to play the vampire in a 10-episode series for NBC. Sweet!
Meyers is no
stranger to playing bad ass icons. In addition to his long-running role as Henry
VIII on "The Tudors," he also played the one and only Elvis Presley
in a 2005 miniseries. Meyers
won a Golden Globe award for his performance as the up-and-coming rocker (think
pre-electric jumpsuit) intent on changing the world of music.
Tupcoming version
of "Dracula" is taking some liberties with the classic Bram Stoker
tale. The series, from producers
Tony Krantz and Colin Callender and writer Cole Haddon, is being produced for
both NBC and U.K.’s Sky Living. It was originally brought to you by NBC in January with a “script-to-series”
commitment, meaning that it wouldn’t go through a pilot stage but straight to
series if NBC brass liked the script.
Dateline reported
that in this version, Dracula will arrive in London, where he poses as an
American entrepreneur and scientist.
However, Dracula's real goal
is to exact revenge on the people who ruined his life many years before.
Dracula then falls for a woman who appears to be the reincarnation of his dead
wife. The new series reunites Meyers with NBC topped Bob Greenblatt who cast the Irish actor in The Tudors while running Showtime.
