Blur New Songs: 'Under The Westway,' 'The Puritan' Get Twitter Release
Our beloved brot-pop band Blur has revealed the dates when you can download two of its new songs,"Under the Westway" and "The Puritan,"
Woohoooo! "Monday the [July 2] somewhere in London on a rooftop, we will be
performing both new songs, for the first time, live on Twitter," bassist
Alex James said in a video announcement posted on the band's Twitter
feed. The songs will be available for download following the
performance.
Back in February, Blur reunited in London and played "Under the Westway," a melancholy number that recalls Let It Be-era
Beatles tracks. According to James, the two songs were written in
support of the band's upcoming Olympics closing ceremony celebration
concert in London's Hyde Park on Aug. 12.
"'The Purtian' is a big and bouncy, up-and-at-'em singalong special,"
James said in the video. "'Under the Westway' is more of a hymn. But I
think they'll both go down very well."
Blur's last album, Think Tank, was released in 2003. Whether these songs lead to further recording is unclear, but James says he's pleased with the tracks.
