INDIE FAVE WINS COVETED MUSIC PRIZE

This band rules! I heard last week for the first time and I'm loving it!

That's why it is with great pleasure that I  say congrats to the British quartet Alt-J, the winners of this year's Barclaycard mercury Prize! This award is the equivalent of Europe's Grammy Award!

The prize was awarded thanks to their new album, An Awesome Wave which was released in September. Critics are calling it "strong and enthralling." Think of it as a  fusion between electronic sounds and psychedelic folk.

The winner was announced this evening (November 1) at a ceremony at the Roundhouse in London. This was the first time the event has been held at the venue and was hosted by Radio/TV presenter Lauren Laverne, who took over from the ceremony's previous host, Jools Holland.

On accepting their prize, the shocked group thanked their parents for not making them get jobs as well as acknowledging "all of Team Alt-J". Speaking to backstage presenter Nick Grimshaw, they admitted they hadn't yet "synthesised the information".

And who could blame them? Pretty great way to end the year, right? The band were also named bookies favourites to win the coveted award. THey will be performing in the West Coast very soon, don't miss them.
