FIVE COACHELLAS A YEAR

Just when you thought you had Coachella figured out, more changes! According to The Desert Sun, Goldenvoice, the company behind the Coachella and Stagecoach festivals, has proposed an expansion which could include up to five festival weekends per year.
The city council of Indio, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival's home, is currently considering the proposal. Goldenvoice is also asking for permission to increase the capacity for existing events, as well as boosting the amount of the land used.

Goldenvoice has been rapidly expanding Coachella's presence in recent years. The festival is now held over two weekends, with identical lineups performing at each. The S.S. Coachella -- a cruise festival -- is also ready to set sail this December. The ship will make two voyages, first to the Bahamas and then to Jamaica. Tickets have already gone on sale.

In 2012, over 80,000 people attended Coachella. Tickets for 2013 are priced at $349 for the weekend. The event continues to draw the biggest acts in music. Headliners in recent years have included Kanye West, Swedish House Mafia, Radiohead and R.E.M. Last year, a digitally resurrected hologram performed with Snoop Dogg.
The proposed expansion in Indio is somewhat surprising, giving an earlier dust-up between Goldenvoice and the small California city. In early July, it was reported that the concert company was debating leaving the famed Empire polo fields if Indio instituted a more aggressive ticket tax policy.
