Atlanta garage rockers Black Lips are back in Los Angeles
and ready to make the El Rey Theater tremble with the sounds of their new album
'Underneath The Rainbow.' The follow-up to 2011's 'Arabia Mountain' LP has 12
tracks and is as gritty, bold and fun as their last work.
Production work by Patrick Carney (Black Keys), as well
as help from Dap Kings music director Tommy Brenneck took their lo-fi garage
rock in a new direction adding more pop elements while keeping their cheeky
essence. It’s still a little 60s, a little country, and a lot of rock.
Black Lips in their performance history have included
(per Wikipedia): “vomiting, urination,
nudity, electric R.C. car races, fireworks, a chicken, and flaming guitars.”
Are you excited yet?
Are you excited yet?
That night the Lips will share the stage with their buds,
The Coathangers, an all-female punk group also from Atlanta. If you haven’t
heard of these girls you’re in for a killer treat!
These girls, with lashing guitars and brutal, stomping
drums are going to make your heart throb. Their in-your-face attitude and
playful energy are going to charm your pants off.
El Rey Theater - Friday, Mar 21, 2014 8:00 p.m. Ages: All Ages.
$22.00
They will also be performing at Burgerama at The Observatory
in Santa Ana - Saturday, Mar 22, 2014 12:00 p.m. $35.
