HISTORY IS MADE IN THE FILM BIZ! FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN NAMED PRESIDENT OF THE ACADEMY

This week’s marks the historic election of Cheryl Boone Isaacs as President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, the first African American and only the third woman to win the prestigious post. Can you say…BAD ASS!

Some media have speculated that Boone Isaacs, who has served in every elected office at the Academy in her two decades on the Board, won because she is a woman and/or African American. WHATEVS! Particularly with the Academy’s very public move toward diversity and away from the “old white man’s club” image which has been changing at a faster pace in recent years with past-Presidents Sid Ganis, Tom Sherak and Hawk Koch and now also has a record 14 women on its Board. That’s a convenient way to characterize this election but it’s hardly the truth. Sometimes, change is refreshing!

RAPPER 50 CENT MAY GO BACK TO THE SLAMMER!

Looks like 50 cent is pulling a Chris Brown! Sux! Recently 50 Cent has pleaded not guilty to charges of domestic violence and vandalism in a Los Angeles court.
Despite his plea, which was made earlier today (August 5), he was ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from Daphne Joy, the alleged mother of his child, at all times. The court also asked him to turn in his guns. Well, duh!

Yeah, like that’s gonna keep the girl safe. He’s a thug people! Got shot in the face nine times remember!

The rapper, real name Curtis Jackson, is accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend and trashing her home in Los Angeles. On June 23, police say they were called to a property in Los Angeles, where they found a woman and a baby. The woman, who said she had been in a relationship with the rapper for three years, told officers that the he broke her shit during an argument. She said he kicked open her bedroom door and then kicked her.
Police say they found rooms ransacked with clothes strewn about and items including chandeliers, furniture and a television broken. There was thousands of dollars in damage done to the woman's home. If convicted, the rapper could face up to five years in prison and fines.

BACK OFF BITCH! HERE COMES THE STATIC AVENGER

OMG! Where has this song been all my life!  Los Angeles-based producer STATIC REVENGER joined forces with singer-songwriter KAY, a regular Dim Mak collaborator, for the release of "Back Off, Bitch!"  The song that debuted this week features a feisty club beat with a hot-blooded KAY unleashing, Fight Club-ready lyrics.
Stateic Avenger is best known for the platinum-selling, worldwide club hits “I Like That” with Richard Vission featuring LUCIANA and “Happy People,” recently nominated by Fatboy Slim as one of the Top 10 Dance Tracks of the Decade.

Trust me, this dirty club-kid dance anthem takes it to the next level. IT IS OUTRAGEOUSY FUN!

The official music video for  "Back Off, Bitch!"—directed by Rev and STATIC REVENGER himself— features an exclusive cameo from Dim Mak head honcho Steve Aoki.

CANADIAN BAND -NOT NICKLEBACK- TO DROP MGMT LIKE ALBUM

The AlbertansUntil recently I had no idea that the Albertans existed, and I can’t imagine why. Oh right, cause they’re Canadian. Just kidding! In all seriousness, they are pretty rad.

The band emerged from the studio for a third time with a new album that explores deeper territory than the off kilter pop hooks they offered in past qworks. Out September 10 on Ernest Jenning Record Co., Dangerous Anything offers a sound that's dark and often challenging while still making previous comparisons to MGMT, CAN, and Sparks as appropriate as ever. So...must be good!

Guitarist/Vocalist Joel Bravo says this record changed the way they approached song writing all together. "We stopped forcing ourselves to be together constantly.  We left each other alone and then when we got together, we wrote everything in the room as a group. And when we got sick of listening to ourselves play, we stopped. The end result is a record I love."
