Kanye West has said that Beck should "respect
artistry" and give his Grammy Award to Beyoncé.
Beck collected two Grammys at last night's ceremony,
including the award for Best Album. As he went to collect the award from
presenter Prince, he was followed onto the stage by West in a move similar to
his infamous interruption of Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV VMAs. West stopped
short though and returned to his seat.
After the ceremony had ended, West explained to the press
why he had got up on the stage and argued that Beck's award belonged to fellow
nominee Beyoncé.
"I just know that the Grammys, if they want real
artists, to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain’t gonna
play with them no more," he said. "And Beck needs to respect artistry
and he should’ve given his award to Beyoncé."
"Because when you keep on diminishing art and not
respecting the craft and smacking people in their face after they deliver
monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration," he
continued. "And we as musicians have to inspire people who go to work
every day, and they listen to that Beyoncé album and they feel like it takes them
to another place."
The Grammy Awards 2015 took place last night (February 8) in
Los Angeles, hosted by LL Cool J. Check out the full list of winners here.
